"Mozambique Capital Shuts Down Schools Amid Flooding Crisis"

/

In response to heavy rains causing extensive flooding across buildings and roads, schools in Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, are compelled to shut down for a week.

This decision impacts both state and private schools in the area. As the situation unfolds, city authorities have opened eighteen accommodation centers to aid those affected by the flooding. However, these centers can only accommodate a fraction of the nearly 43,000 people impacted by the disaster, as reported by the Maputo Municipal Council.

Local councillor Anabela Inguane emphasizes the efforts underway to provide essential assistance to those affected, including food, buckets, blankets, mats, and coordination with relief agencies like INGD to supply tents and other necessities.

Tragically, the heavy downpour has claimed the lives of at least two individuals since the onset of the flooding on Sunday.
