"Eswatini Denies Reports of Male Shortage in the Kingdom"

/

The Kingdom of Eswatini has been compelled to deny reports suggesting it was offering citizenship to men from other Southern African countries due to a shortage of men at home.

A viral letter, which was later revealed to be a fake, purported to be from King Mswati III and expressed concern over the “scarcity of men” in Eswatini. The false letter also claimed that the king would assist men from Southern Africa who were willing to marry wives and receive free houses in the kingdom.

“The public is notified that this circulating notice is fake,” stated the Eswatini government in a brief statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The authorship of the fake letter, which had garnered considerable attention from social media users in the region, remains unclear.

Eswatini, Africa’s last absolute monarchy, has a population of about 1.2 million people.
