A recent development in the case of the missing six-year-old South African girl, Joslin Smith, has unfolded as authorities have charged a new suspect in connection with her disappearance.

The saga surrounding Joslin’s vanishing has captivated the nation since she went missing near her residence in Saldanha Bay, situated 110km (70 miles) northwest of Cape Town, on February 19th.

In a significant development, a 32-year-old woman appeared in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking in the Western Cape province.

Further complicating the case, Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, and another individual are currently in custody, also facing charges related to kidnapping and trafficking.

Amid the legal proceedings, a traditional healer was released last week due to insufficient evidence.

The latest suspect is scheduled for a bail hearing on March 25th, while Ms. Smith and the other defendants are set to return to court on May 13th.

Despite the ongoing legal process, Joslin remains missing, her whereabouts a haunting mystery.

In an emotional statement to local publication The Daily Voice, Ms. Smith expressed unwavering determination in the search for her daughter: “My motherly instincts are telling me my daughter is still alive and in this area. We will find her, I will walk on foot to find her. I will look in every little shack, I’m going to do it by myself if I have to.”

Notably, Joslin was entrusted to the care of Ms. Smith’s boyfriend before her disappearance, with him adamantly denying any involvement.

While South Africa grapples with the heartbreaking reality that, on average, a child goes missing every five hours in the country, there remains hope that Joslin will be found, adding urgency to the ongoing search efforts.
