"Four Children Die After Being Trapped in Freezer in Namibia"

Namibian police are investigating the tragic deaths of four children who were found trapped inside an unused freezer in the north-eastern Zambezi Region. The children, aged between three and six, were discovered on Monday afternoon in the densely populated town of Katima Mulilo.

Authorities believe the children became accidentally trapped while playing inside the old deep freezer and suffocated. Two of the children died on the scene, while the other two were rushed to Katima Mulilo State Hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Aranges Shoro, the father of one of the children, recounted the moment he saw paramedics attending to his daughter and another child before they were taken to the hospital. The other two victims were transported in police mortuary vehicles.

Zambezi regional police commander Andreas Shilelo told AFP that the freezer had a latch that could only be opened from the outside, causing the children to be trapped for about an hour and a half.

It remains unclear why the non-functional freezer had been left outside the home of one of the affected families. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
