Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to retaliate against any attacks on Iran, following threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
His remarks come after Tehran dismissed the possibility of direct talks with Washington in response to a letter from Trump regarding Iran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program.
Both the U.S. and Israel have repeatedly warned that they will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons, fueling concerns of a potential military confrontation as Tehran enriches uranium to near weapons-grade levels—an activity typically associated with nuclear-armed states.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have remained high since the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement under Trump’s administration, reinstating economic sanctions and causing the deal’s collapse.
While Iran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, its officials have increasingly hinted at the possibility of pursuing nuclear weapons amid ongoing sanctions and heightened regional tensions following the breakdown of a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
