Gabonese international striker Aaron Boupendza has tragically passed away at the age of 28 after reportedly falling from the 11th floor of his apartment building in Hangzhou, China.

Boupendza had recently joined Chinese Super League side Zhejiang FC in January, where he had made an immediate impact by scoring four goals in six appearances.

Throughout his career, Boupendza showcased his talent across various countries, including stints in France, Portugal, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Romania. Notably, he was the top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig during the 2020–21 season with Hatayspor, netting 22 goals.

On the international stage, Boupendza earned 35 caps and scored eight goals for the Gabon national team. He was a key figure during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored the decisive goal in Gabon’s opening match against Comoros.

The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) confirmed his passing, and President Brice Oligui Nguema expressed his condolences, describing Boupendza as “a talented centre-forward who brought honour to Gabonese football.”

Chinese authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Boupendza’s untimely passing has left the football community in mourning, with tributes pouring in from teammates, coaches, and fans worldwide.
