Bryan Mbeumo says he’s joined “the club of his dreams” after completing a high-profile transfer from Brentford to Manchester United in a deal worth an initial £65 million, potentially rising to £71 million with add-ons.
The 25-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract, with the option of a further year, and becomes manager Ruben Amorim’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
United’s pursuit of the Cameroon international spanned seven weeks, with their third offer finally accepted last week. Speaking after the move, Mbeumo said:
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take it. This is the club I dreamed of as a child — the one whose shirt I wore growing up.”
He added:
“My mentality is to improve every day. I know I can reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players. The ambition at this club is clear — we’re here to fight for major trophies.”
Mbeumo joins United on the back of a stellar season, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists — both personal bests — in the Premier League. Across six seasons at Brentford, he registered 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances.
United director of football Jason Wilcox praised Mbeumo’s consistency:
“His goal and assist record is outstanding. Bryan’s desire to join us and belief in our project made it clear he was the right fit for Manchester United.”
His departure marks Brentford’s record sale, surpassing the £40 million move of Ivan Toney to Al-Ahli in 2024. Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles paid tribute:
“Bryan came to us as a teenager and became a key part of our journey. There’s a right time for every player to move on — and this is Bryan’s moment.”
Mbeumo will wear the No. 19 shirt and is expected to join United’s pre-season tour of the United States starting Tuesday.
